President Rodrigo Duterte said Martial Law in Mindanao stays until the military and police recommend its lifting.
It is a military and police decision, Duterte told reporters in Davao City on Friday, July 7.
I consulted them and they say it’s (still) critical, said Duterte.
Duterte also said it is the military and police which will decide whether or not to lift Martial Law before his State Of The Nation Address (SONA) on July 24.
If the military and police say “everything is okay, that’s the time we lift martial law,” Duterte said.
” I rely on the words of the military and police because they are the ones who keep this republic alive,” said the President.
On May 23, the President declared a 60-day martial rule in the Philippines’ southern island, a day after local terrorists linked to ISIS attacked and occupied parts of predominantly Muslim Marawi City in western Mindanao.
According to military, only about 100 of the terrorist groups Maute and Abu Sayyaf remains holed up in a few fortified buildings after seven weeks of fierce fighting that killed more than 300 of the terrorists.
